Standard Process Black Cumin Seed Forte

Medi Herb Black Cumin Seed Forte

Medi Herb Black Cumin Seed Forte is SO special, it deserves a highlight unto itself. Also known as Nigella Sativa- it is a widely used medicinal plant throughout the world. In Islamic literature, it is considered as one of the greatest forms of healing medicine. In recent decades, it’s been  clinically observed and proven to be highly supportive of the  body in general, but also including:

Black Cumin Seed (Nigella ) and Niacin/Niacinamide  is highly regarded as being neuroprotective of the substantia nigra.

Parkinson’s and drug addiction are linked with the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the Substania Nigra. Both Niacin/Niacinamide and Black Cumin Seed have been studied and clinically proved successful in regards to the protection of these neurons.

When a significant number of dopaminergic neurons die, the body starts to experience movement-related tremors –stiffness, inflexibility of limbs, and loss of balance all the hallmark symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Being one of the major dopamine-producing areas of the brain, the substantia nigra has functions that extend beyond just motor control.

Nigella is also thought to play an important role in a number of other functions and behaviors, including drug addiction. Use of illicit stimulants (methamphetamine, cocaine, and ecstasy) causes neurotoxicity. In a fascinating study where rats were exposed to chronic levels of toluene for months, it caused severe degenerative changes which destroyed neurons in the frontal cortex and brain stem. In the group of rats that were exposed to the same toxin, but also treated orally once daily with Nigella, no pathological changes in the nerve cells were detected!

HASHIMOTO’S: Forty patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, aged between 22 and 50 years old, participated in the trial and were randomly allocated into two groups of intervention and control receiving powdered Nigella sativa or placebo daily for 8 weeks.

It was an outstanding success! Treatment with Nigella sativa significantly reduced body weight and body mass index (BMI). Serum concentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies decreased while serum T3 concentrations increased in Nigella sativa-treated group after 8 weeks. None of these changes were observed in the placebo-treated group.

Rebecca Ellis on Black Cumin Seed Forte

Rebecca Ellis Lac of Arcata Wellness Center reminded me of the value of Black Cumin Seed Forte.

She said, “My patients with auto immune disease are doing very well with it”. Thanks Rebecca!

Black Cumin Seed vs Black Cumin Oil

Black Cumin Seed vs Black Cumin Oil

Seed: is considered superior oil versions of Nigella. Black Cumin Seed Forte is a source of the  all-important thymoquinone

Nigella Oil: is a source of the fatty acids from the seed, but doesn’t have any of the beneficial phytochemicals. Allergic reactions are more common with the oil rather than the seed.

DOSING: Each tablet of Black Cumin Seed Forte = 2 grams nigella seed- the dosage commonly tested in clinical trials. 1 tablet daily total needed. More may be used depending upon the individual circumstances.
